The story of Rooftop 39 begins in 1950, when construction on the Murphy Building commenced, ultimately becoming an iconic example of post-World War II commercial architecture by its completion in 1953. Sitting at 200 N. Jefferson Avenue, this six-and-a-half-story building has seen decades of change, but its roots run deep in the rich history of El Dorado’s oil boom. The city came to life in 1921 when the Busey No. 1 oil well struck, marking the start of a new era. Rooftop 39 stands as a tribute to this vibrant legacy, offering an unforgettable setting for events, celebrations, and gatherings.
Owners Amanda and Toddy Pitard
Owned and operated by Amanda and Toddy Pitard, Rooftop 39 is the latest addition to their portfolio of businesses. The Pitards are also the proud owners of Murphy-Pitard Jewelers, a family-run institution since 1939, located on the ground floor of the same building. The name “Rooftop 39” honors this heritage, symbolizing both the year the jewelry store was founded and the continued commitment to excellence the Pitard family upholds.
With a passion for businesses who boast extensive history in anchoring their respective communities, the Pitards also own Lauray’s the Diamond Center in Hot Springs, AR, which began in 1924, and Goldsteins Jewelers in Mobile, AL, which began in 1879. The Pitards bring the same attention to detail and personalized service that defines their jewelry stores to this exceptional event venue.
